When the view is fogged in, you add another five miles to your day and check out some waterfalls.
Heybrook Lookout, a 2.5 mile fire lookout tower has been on our list for a while and we wanted to get there before the we lost the snow for the season. Unfortunately the weather was hit and miss and the lookout was fogged in when we reached the tower.
This is what we were suppose to see (well, during winter)..
Since we were fogged in we didn't climb the tower stairs. So we added another 200 feet in elevation instead and took in the views from the crackling powerlines instead. Romantic...
The days saving grace was a 5 mile round trip hike at Wallace State Park. Now... I haven't done a lot of lunges lately, but this hike definitely filled that void. Especially when the trails signage started as easy and transitioned into difficult and then more difficult (really just the steepness, not so much the difficulty or fear of imminent death).
At the onset of the trail people were eating these orange berries and we must have given them a look because they felt obligated to tell us that they are called salmon berries and that they are safe to eat. So we gave them a go. Hmmmmm. Can't say I would run out to my local grocery store, but if I found myself in the wilderness needing something to fill by tummy they would work. Semi tart in the beginning and subtle orangish flavor to finish.
Next up... Idaho and Oregon!
