July Shenanigan's

July wrapped up the last of family summer visitors with my brother, sister-in-law and niece who came to visit!

Though they had an ambitious road trip post Seattle visit, the biggest accomplishment was a "training" challenge for Mila to walk 15 days in July to the bell tower in their neighborhood. This challenge was in preparation for kid friendly hikes we were going to do in Rainier, but after the day trip with my parents we decided driving to and from Rainier with a four year old might be too ambitious. So, we decided a hike at Discovery Park, with some beach and playground time was the next best option. The challenge revolved around walking to the bell tower and back. If she walked 15 days, ice cream from Molly Moons was the treat, and 20 days was ice cream plus a toy. I didn't know that I needed to come up with an incentive for 30 days! and though I couldn't deliver a yellow school bus that she could drive per the request, I think we all had some pretty good memories that a yellow school bus can never match!

Jamila's first 2 mile hike and she crushed it!

Billy didn't look as confident!

Goat Lake

Hike #25 for the year was a 10.5 mile hike called Goat Lake. Though no goats were spotted, it was a nice Sunday stroll with just over 1,700 feet in elevation gain. Unfortunately the hike was a little drizzly and foggy, but it was a pleasant stroll, with babbling brooks, waterfalls, and a peaceful lake to get back in to the hiking spirt.
