Hiking in 2020 wearing masks, distancing protocols and turning the opposite direction while passing someone on trail didn't allow for many “Hello’s!”, “How are you?” or “Enjoy your hike” conversations with fellow hikers. Therefore, in 2021 we decided to be more engaging and do our best to greet and exchange general pleasantries with those we see on the trail, even if we were wearing masks. Our second visitors in May included Greg and Liz. With Liz in class, Greg joined us for a 6.8 mile hike on Cougar Mountain called Margaret's Way Trail to Debbie's View. Sharing our new goal with Greg, he was the perfect caboose to our hiking train, greeting fellow hikers with the sincerest and most Wisconsin sounding, “Hey guys, how is it going?!” Now we didn't engage in in-depth conversations, but it was nice to feel like we made some connections along the way.
Following up a hike with a burger from Blue Moon Burgers on a seventy degree day with a view of the Olympic Mountain range wasn't bad either!
